Core tip: in the treatment of hypertension, combination therapy is currently a more respected medication method, but not all patients with hypertension are applicable. For people with mild hypertension (grade 1 hypertension), the blood pressure value is close to the target value, so only one drug is needed, and a combination of drugs is needed after seeing the doctor.
According to the famous hot study on hypertension, the effective rate of monotherapy changed from 63% to 33%, while the effective rate of combination therapy increased to 93%. Indeed, the side effects of drugs are closely related to the dosage used. The larger the dosage, the higher the probability of side effects. Two or more drugs can produce synergistic and antagonistic effects in vivo. Rational use can enhance efficacy, reduce or even offset side effects. Therefore, in the treatment of hypertension, combination therapy is currently a more respected medication method.
But not all patients with high blood pressure are suitable. There is a standard for the combination of drugs, that is, there should be enough difference between the current blood pressure and the target blood pressure, that is, the difference between systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure is more than 20 mmHg and 10 mmHg respectively.
For example, if the patient's current blood pressure value is 180 / 110 mmHg and the target is to reduce it to 140 / 90 mmHg, then his systolic blood pressure gap is 40 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure gap is 20 mmHg. In this case, it is suggested that the combination of drugs should be used, and the combination of small doses should be used first, and the effect of "1 + 1 > 2" can be brought into play.
Experts remind that for people with mild hypertension (grade 1 hypertension), the blood pressure value is close to the target value, so only one drug needs to be used, and whether combined medication is needed will be considered after seeing the doctor.
